Harnos Optometry
Experienced, caring optometrists dedicated to your vision and your health — right here in New Paltz.
A metro-Detroit native and University of Michigan honors graduate, Dr. Harnos earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the SUNY College of Optometry in New York City, where he was deeply involved in student leadership. He served as class president, Gold Key Honor's Society President, and AOSA national trustee, and founded the first LGBTQ+ club at any independent college of optometry in the country.
His clinical focus includes ocular disease, pediatrics, and binocular vision. He has published in Modern Optometry and presented lectures on sensory hypersensitivity and electrophysiological testing. Dr. Harnos is a clinical attending supervisor at SUNY College of Optometry and currently serves as President of the Hudson Valley Optometric Association.
Outside the office, he enjoys running, volleyball, reading, and performing as a classically trained trumpet player with the Ulster County Wind Ensemble.
Dr. Scott I. Morrison grew up in Belle Harbor, Queens, NY, and earned his B.A. in Biology from Queens College (CUNY) before completing his Doctorate of Optometry at SUNY College of Optometry. He established his New Paltz practice in 1985 and later opened an Orange County location in Montgomery, NY.
Dr. Morrison maintains a faculty position as Assistant Clinical Professor at SUNY College of Optometry and serves as a 12-week externship supervisor. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and a Past President of the Hudson Valley Optometric Society, where he continues to serve on the board.
In his spare time, Dr. Morrison enjoys exercise, music, and rooting for the Jets. He has been happily married to Jacki Posner Morrison for over 34 years, and they have two sons — Jake, an attorney in NYC, and Ben, a Biomedical Engineer in Los Angeles.
Originally from Little Falls, New York, Dr. Elaine Doxtader earned her B.S. in Biology from Siena College before completing her Doctorate of Optometry at SUNY College of Optometry. She brings a broad range of expertise to the practice, with a genuine passion for the full scope of primary eye care.
Dr. Doxtader provides comprehensive eye exams for patients of all ages and specializes in managing chronic eye diseases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular conditions. She approaches every patient with warmth, thoroughness, and a commitment to making them feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their visit.
Outside of the office, she enjoys skiing, traveling, and cooking.
The heart and soul of Harnos Optometry. Consistently Employee of the Month. They contribute the most while doing the least — and somehow, nobody questions it.
The senior partner. At two and a half years Bonnie's elder, Marcy arrived first, established the culture, and has been setting the standard ever since. A blue Whippet of remarkable composure and selective affection, she operates entirely on her own terms — an independent woman who gives love when she feels like it and not a moment before.
You'll find Marcy in the office most Thursdays, where she takes her patient relations responsibilities seriously. She has been known to walk into the optical or waiting room to personally greet new arrivals — and on occasion, to accompany Dr. Harnos to the exam room to give patients a thorough once-over of her own. Her assessment process involves prolonged eye contact and a single decisive sniff. Results are usually favorable.
Off the clock, Marcy's passions include fetch, frisbee, chasing Bonnie, and napping with the focused dedication of a true professional. Her preferred snacks are frozen carrots and peanut butter, both of which she accepts graciously from patients — courtesy of Dr. Harnos.
The junior partner, by two and a half years and approximately zero other metrics. Bonnie is a brindle Whippet with a gift for making everyone she meets feel like the most important person in the room.
Unlike her co-CEO, Bonnie's affection has no prerequisites. She loves freely, enthusiastically, and often at an inconvenient moment. Patients who visit on Thursdays quickly learn that Bonnie's welcome is genuine, immediate, and occasionally involves her entire body. She has never met a stranger, has never turned down a treat, and has strong opinions about frisbee technique that she is happy to demonstrate at length.
When not performing her executive duties, Bonnie enjoys chasing Marcy, being chased by Marcy, and identifying the exact sunniest patch of floor for her afternoon rest. She is well-loved by staff and patients alike, and she absolutely knows it.
Marcy and Bonnie can be found in the office most Thursdays. Treats are provided by Dr. Harnos — your contribution is just saying hello.
