Contact Lenses
The right contact lens modality depends on your tear film, lifestyle, and how you use your lenses. Here's a practical breakdown to help you and your doctor choose well.
Hygiene: Fresh, sterile lens every day — no case, no solution, no deposit buildup. Strongly preferred for patients with allergies, dry eye history, or previous lens-related complications.
Dry eye performance: Without weekly deposit accumulation, dailies consistently perform better. Water gradient dailies (Dailies Total1) offer particularly high surface moisture, helping many dry eye patients stay comfortable significantly longer.
Part-time wear: For patients who alternate glasses and contacts, dailies make clinical and economic sense. Use a lens only when you need it.
Cost: For full-time wearers, monthlies typically run $200-400 less per year than dailies. A real savings for consistent wearers.
Prescription complexity: High astigmatism and multifocal designs are more readily available in monthly modalities, with a wider selection of parameters.
Environmental footprint: Substantially less packaging waste than daily disposal.
For most patients who can wear either, we recommend daily disposables — primarily for hygiene and dry eye performance advantages. For full-time wearers with complex prescriptions and excellent compliance, quality monthly lenses remain an excellent option.
